Sahel
wins consolidatory match
Mackenzie Soccer Ground, Richmond Hill, October 6,
2004 – Sahel wins a consolidatory match against Kavian
on Sunday by 2 goals.
Sahel,
suffering a humiliating defeat in the hands of Kavian
a week earlier, fielded a fresh line up consisting
of its top players and some new comers bringing fresh
leg and skills to Sahel. Kavian, however was missing
the services of some of its top players.
The
first half saw both teams creating opportunities in
front of the goals however, none were able to take
the lead. The first half ended 0-0. In the second
half, Sahel took advantage of a couple of defensive
mishaps by Kavian and scoreded two goals to finish
the game 2-0.
In the last minutes of the game Kavian pushed hard
for a consolidatory goal, but it just wasn’t meant
to happen.

Kavian
Takes revenge, down Sahel by 6 goals
Mackenzie
Soccer Ground, Richmond Hill, September 26, 2004 –
Kavian took revenge with a dazzling performance to
down Sahel by 6 goals in their repeat encounter after
the Sirous Ghayeghran Tournament.
This
time, it was Kavian who took control of the game from
the very beginning and almost never let the opponent
to seriously threaten its goal. 4 goals in the first
half and 2 more in the second sealed the victory and
send Sahel home with a bitter defeat. Even the two
controversial penalties and a last minute goal were
not enough to salvage anything for the visitors.
In
the last 20 minutes of the game, Sahel, frustrated
by the defeat, reverted to a very rough physical play
together with frequent fouls, and at times loss of
temper by its players. The referee (Farhoud Abasian)
was able to control the match very well and prevented
Sahel players from engaging into further violence.
“A
superb performance by Kavian, that is all I can say
about this game. Bravo Kavian!”, said Farid Abasian,
Kavian’s player/organizer.

Kavian
slam eight past Paars
York
Mills Collegiate, Tuesday July 6, 2004 - Kavian's
first friendly match of the season started in an impressive
style on Tuesday as they hammered the host Paars 8-3.
Paars
appeared strong in the opening minutes of the game
forcing Kavian defense struggle to clear a few chances
in front of the goal. However, it was Kavian that
took the lead when Ali Malekshahi scored the first
goal in the 10th minute of the game, with Vahid Nejad
adding the second just a few minutes later to put
the visitors in firm control. Farhad Sadough added
a third goal in the 35 minute to increase the gap
even wider. Paars used the offside trap to deny the
visitors a good number of goal scoring opportunities
and was faced with Kavian players contesting the offside
rules on number of controversial occasions.
Paars
managed to pull back a consolation goal in the later
part of the first half to end the first 45 minutes
3-1 for Kavian, while it could have easily been 5-1
for the visitors.
Second
half started with Kavian playing a slow and defensive
game, and this allowed the opponent to push forward
with a very tough and physical style of play and score
their second from a mishap in front of Kavian's goal.
As the host, excited with the second goal, was about
to gain momentum to push for the equalizer, it was
Kavian once again that took control of the game and
added some gloss to the final result.
Five
more spectacular goals were scored by the Kavian players
before the final whistle. Ali Behzadi scored the fourth
with an excellent free kick behind the eighteen, Ardeshir
Samei chip the ball over the goalie to score the fifth,
before Paars pulled back their third, taking advantage
of a defensive mix-up. Behnam Abbassi increased the
gap with a long and powerful shot from the middle
of the field to score the sixth, Ali Behzadi showed
off his dribbling skills to pass 7 Paars players and
score his second and seventh, and finally Meysam Motazedi,
taking advantage of a good pass from Ali Behzadi,
scored the eight in the final minutes of the second
half.
"The
home side was well beaten in this game. Kavian showed
that it can stand a tough test. Paars was a strong
team and they played a very physical game but at the
end we came victorious and were able to show great
form from goalkeeping to offense. Of course there
are areas that we should improve and with a few more
friendlies, I am sure we will improve even more",
said Behnam Abbassi, the player/coach of Kavian. "My
congratulations goes to the team for such great performance,
our players did a great job", said Farid Abasian,
Kavian player and game organizer.
