Dear Friends/Teammates,

This Saturday marked the end of T.J. Cup 2005 competition for Kavian Football Club. I would like to take the opportunity as your team organizer to thank all of you for your participation and support all throughout the season.

This summer was indeed a great milestone in the history of our football club and we should be very proud for what we accomplished together. We lost some games and won others, but more importantly we enjoyed a season full of excitment and at the same time, gained recognition and praise for our team, players and the organization behind it. We managed to foster many bonds and friendships and packed our bags with many good memories.

I am particularly proud to have had the opportunity to be with everyone of you and serve the team in any way I could. You are all great sportsman and wonderful football players. Your contributions have made it possible for Kavian to be where it is today. Honorable mentions include;

Pirooz Rajabi - for his great support and leadership on and off the field. He was there when we needed him and even played while being injured. Pirooz you are a true Kavian Lion.

Mehdi Hatami - for his support and participation and all the coaching help he provided the team. Mehdi, you make a great football strategist. Kavian scored two valuable goals courtesy of your tactics!

Siavash Mohajeri - for his positive spirit and support. When he played he put 100% and when he didn't, he made sure he is cheering from the stands. Sia, you are the man!

Ali Behzadi - watching him play is always a joy. Ali is a wonderful footballer with superb skills, pleasant character and gentleman like behaviour that makes him loved by everyone.

Ali Malekshahi - for his fighting spirit. Ali was spotted by many as one our star players and indeed his presence for the team was the difference between losing and winning. His help in organization was also significant.

Amir H Mohammadi - for his great football abilities and his heroic efforts to fill in the position of the goalkeeper when we needed one. Amir is truly a multi-talented footballer.

Ardeshir Samie - for his 200% commitment to every game. His fighting spirit is second to none. A great guy with great speed and skills. Bright future!

Azarakhsh Golshani - for his endless efforts, great spirit, and pleasant character. He scored a nice goal for the team that I am sure will stay in memories for a long time.

Behnam Abbassi - for his wealth of experience and great soccer skills. I have had the pleasure of knowing him for 27 years. I played along side him at York U. back in 1981 and now I had the honor once again. Beni, you are a football legend!

Farhad Sadough - for his Beckham-like shots and for his artistic talent. He is the man behind our web site, logo, jersey design, etc. He broke his shoulder bone while playing like a hero for his team! We wish him a quick recovery and hope to see him back on the field soon.

Farhoud Abbassian - for his support and participation. If it wasn't because of his move to Ottawa, we would had an extra tough defender in our team that would have made things much different during those tough games. We truly missed him this season. I know he has been watching us from the Capital.

Hamed Pasha - for his super personality, gentleman behavior and great football abilities. We discovered that Hamed is not only a great defenseman, but also a great goalkeeper, as he bravely stood in the goal on number of occassions to show how far he can go in helping the team.

Houman Shahmar - he only played two games for Kavian, but showed what a talented player he is. Too bad he came rather late from a long trip oversees. We hope to see him in action next season for Kavian.

Javad M Pourvahidi - for his help in securing a sponsor for the team. His wisdom and leadership abilities also helped the team both on and off the field. Thank you Javad.

Meysam Motazedi - I truly think, he is Kavian's most valuable discovery during the season. His unmatched skills as the sweeper brought confidence to our defense line and strengthen our team. Too bad that the red card kept following him on number occassions and his teammates had to tackle the tough task without him.

Ali Moghtader - for his towering figure and the difference he made in our team during the last few games he played for us. Kavian achieved some great results when he was in the line up. Ali is moving oversees on a job assignment for a few years. We wish him all the best.

Nasser Behruz - For his support and participation. He is a great player with great skills. We hope to see him in action again for Kavian next season. Shahriar Alipanah - for his great football abilities and pleasant character on and off the field. He is a solid defender and Kavian has relied on him all along.

Stephen Scott - for our one and only imported goalkeeper from the land of great teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Oxford United (just for you). Steven is a great keeper with a safe pair of hands who has been playing heroically for Kavian for a few years now.

Vahid Nejad - for his fighting spirit, dedication and endless efforts to the very last second of every game. His skills and attitude on the field, makes him a gem for any team.

Homayoon Ahadian - for his gentle attitude and great football skills. His addition to Kavian brought confidence and strength to the team and helped achieve some of the best victories we had in the league.

Sepand Salimi - a young man who played only a few games for Kavian, but impresed every observer. Sepand is a skillful player with great character and a bright future. We hope to see him in our team next season.

Mehrdad Zafari - for his goal scoring abilities and great personality. He scored a memorable penalty for Kavian in one of the most nerve wrecking games in the league cup.

Mohsen M Hassan - he only played a few games, but impressed the most with his goal scored from a curling shot behind the eighteen in one of the tough games in the league. I personally never forget the excitment he showed when he scored the goal.

Mohammad Sadegh - for his skills, attitude, character, and personality. Mohammd is truly a gentleman. He is certainly among the best goalkeepers in the entire league.

Mehdi Motazedi - for his support and participation in the league. He is a great footballer. Mehdi has moved to England recently. We wish him all the best.

Saeed Najafi - for his positive response, when we called upon him on a short notice to help the team in crucial moment. His help was tremendous and his skills one that Kavian would be happy to have on its regular roster next year.

My special thanks and gratitude also goes to our senior members who provided their support and our fans who came and sat under intense heat and humidity to cheer for Kavian. Thank you! With best wishes for a happy and healthy winter season.

Thanks & Regards,
Farid Abasian

Kavian Stun Window City, Again!

G. Ross Lord Park - Kavian's revival after a series of losses started on an encouraging note on Saturday as they defeated a full-strength Window City with a crushing 3-1 result in the return leg of T.J. Cup League games.

Kavian had seen a good run come to an end in some heart-breaking losses recently, responded in style to defeat one of the leading contenders in this year's T.J. Cup competition thanks to goals from Ali Behzadi, Amir H Mohammadi and Behnam Abbassi.

Kavian showed one of its best performances of the season and dominated a powerful opponent in almost every aspect of the game. Kavian came close to scoring in minute 5, as a powerful shot by Farid Abasian, just missed the goal by a few inches. Ali Behzadi netted the first goal in the minute 25, beating the defenders on the left side of the Window City penalty box before firing an unstoppable shot into the net. A few minutes later he was brought down in the eighteen and this time it was Behnam Abbassi, who also scored the winner in the first leg game against Window City, scored from a penalty spot in minute 35 to make it 2-0 for Kavian.

Kavian continued their complete domination of the game in the second half, and made it even worse for Window City, when Amir H Mohammadi found himself in front of the goal and fired home a low shot from 10 meters.

Kavian goalkeeper, Mohammad Sadegh was called upon for this game and he showed why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the league as he single handedly preserved the victory by stopping the Window City forwards on many occasions.

Frustration on part of Window City showed clearly, as unsportsmanship behaviour reduced them to 9 man. A consolidation goal resulted from a mistake on part of Kavian defense was not enough to salavage anything for Window City. The scored remained 3-1 for Kavian at the whistle. "It was the second time Window City was defeated by Kavian. This is certainly is going to be a major boost in our efforts to prepare for the playoff games", said Farid Abasian, Kavian League Team Manager.

"It was quite a good game. All the players, particularly the newcomers, had a confident display. We didn’t lose our control over the game and I am sure that we will be a mighty side in the remaining as well as the playoff games", he further added.

Kavian's line up consisted of: Ali Behzadi, Ali Malekshahi, Mehdi Hatami (Ali Moghtader), Amir H Mohammadi, Ardeshir Samie, Behnam Abbassi, Farid Abasian, Hamed Pasha, Mohammad Sadegh, Homayoon Ahadian, M.J. Pourvahidi, Meysam Motazedi, and Sepand Salimi.

Big Win At Kavian Delights NY Chrysler

G. Ross Lord Park - NY Chrysler was understandably delighted with the big 6-2 thrashing of Kavian in their return game in the T.J. Cup league games.

The NY Chrysler side scored three first half goals and added three more in the second half to storm to the top of the table of standing. Getting on the scoresheet for Kavian were Ali Behzadi and Ali Malekshahi.

“It’s a great win for them and they are now in a comfortable position in the table of standing", Said Farid Abasian, Kavian League Team Manager. "We have to remain calm and keep our feet on the ground. There are more games left and there will be more opportunities to make up ahead.”, he further added.

Kavian's line up consisted of: Ali Malekshahi, Amir H Mohammadi, Ardeshir Samie, Behnam Abbassi, Farhad Sadough, Farid Abasian, Hamed Pasha, M.J. Pourvahidi, Mehdi Motazedi, Meysam Motazedi, Azarakhsh Golshani, Nasser Behruz, Shahriar Alipanah, Steven Scott and Vahid Nejad.

Lackluster Kavian Lose Against Shahin

G. Ross Lord Park - Shahin staged the biggest shock for Kavian as they won the T.J. Cup league return game against them, by the score of 3-1 on Saturday.

Having won the first game against Shahin with complete dominance, Kavian was expected to have little trouble against a Shahin side, ranked on the bottom of the table of standing and hammered 3-0 by both Sahel and Adhami in their past two games.

However, Kavian couldn't find a way past the defense of the Shahin side easily on a frustrating day in G. Ross Lord Park. Kavian, who were hoping to move up in the table of standing, dominated possession and had many chances to put the ball in Shahin's net only for the efforts that resulted in one goal.

The first half ended 1-1, but Shahin scored 2 consecutive goals in the second half from silly mistakes by Kavian defense to seal off the day with an unexpected 3-1 victory.

Kavian's line up consisted of: Ali Malekshahi, Amir H Mohammadi, Ardeshir Samie, Behnam Abbassi, Farhad Sadough, Farid Abasian, Hamed Pasha, M.J. Pourvahidi, Mehdi Motazedi, Meysam Motazedi, Azarakhsh Golshani, Nasser Behruz, Shahriar Alipanah, Steven Scott and Vahid Nejad.

Kavian Declared the Winner Against Tricel

G. Ross Lord Park - In protest against Window City's use of unregistered players in a game that was lost a week earlier by an embarrassing result, Tricel did not field its team against Kavian for the second leg of T.J. Cup league game scheduled for today.

According to NYCSL rules and regulations, Kavian was declared the winner by the score of 1-0.

"We do have proper channels for complaints and issues that might arise in the games and no team should take matters in their own hand. Not showing up is not sportsman like and is damaging to the league.", said Farid Abasian, Kavian's League Team Manager.

Kavian Suffer Narrow Loss to Adhami

G. Ross Lord Park - Having eliminated Adhami from the league cup a few weeks earlier, Kavian had to suffer a narrow loss to Adhami in the T.J. Cup league games on Saturday.

Adhami scored the winner in minute 75 in a game that Kavian created more scoring opportunities and dominated for most of the game.

Kavian pressed hard in the last 15 minutes of the game, but it just wasn't meant to happen as the woodwork came to rescue Adhami at least four times and over a dozen free kicks were taken with no result.

"Our team played well and everybody fought like a lion, we deserved to win this game, but that is football and sometime the result is not a proper indicative of how well the teams performed on the field." said, Behnam Abbassi, Kavian's player/coach.

Kavian's line up consisted of: Ali Behzadi, Ali Malekshahi, Amir H Mohammadi, Behnam Abbassi, Farhad Sadough, M.J. Pourvahidi, Mehdi Motazedi, Meysam Motazedi, Azarakhsh Golshani, Nasser Behruz, Vahid Nejad, Shahriar Alipanah, Mohammad Sadegh, Ardeshir Samie, Siavash Mohajeri, and Steven Scott.

Sadough & Scott the Heroes as Gutsy Kavian Win

Kavian got a passage to the third round of last eight of the knockout League Cup after beating Adhami 4-3 on penalties in a dramatic game at G. Ross Lord Park on Sunday.

Extra-time failed to separate the teams with the scores locked at 3-3, this after Adhami had led 3-1 and Kavian's goalkeeper and defense saved a few other opportunities from Adhami's forwards to complete the greatest comeback.

Kavian's coach sprung a major surprise by putting a winning arrangement out that had missing regular players in all ranks, due to injuries or other commitments.

Kavian enjoyed the perfect start, taking the lead with less than 10 minutes on the clock. Ali Malekshahi managed to control the ball in a crowded area and pass it nicely for Mehrdad Zafari who made no mistake in putting the ball pass the goalkeeper.

Adhami reacted positively with two goals in quick succession to silence the still cheering Kavian's fans for their first goal. And the worse was yet to follow, as Adhami scored their third of the game 5 minutes from the half to strike another blow to Kavian's hope of advancing to the next round.

Adhami appeared to have comfortably wrapped up the contest before half-time. But Kavian responded with courage and determination, erasing Adhami's superiority in a mesmerizing last 20 minutes spell with two goals from the former Tehran's Paas and Toronto Italia player, Behnam Abbassi.

In the second half, Kavian appeared strong and determined from the onset and played as though goals are to come. Kavian came close many times to score including a powerful shot from 20 yards from Mehdi Motazedi that hit the post. And finally the experienced Behnam Abbassi gave his side a glimmer of hope, to score Kavian's second 20 minutes from time. That glimmer shone brighter 10 minutes later as his close range kick from Farid Abasian's left wing long cross finding the far corner of the opponent net.

Kavian had a few opportunities to seal off the victory in regulation time, but Adhami's goalkeeper denied Kavian's chances one after another. At the whistle the scored remained 3-3 and the two 5 minutes extra time was not enough to break the deadlock and despite efforts by both sides, the scored remained unchanged for a breath taking penalty shoot out.

Three out of the first five penalties were converted by each team, before the sudden death penalty came to break the tie. Each team scored their first, then Farhad Sadough scored followed by Stephen Scott saving the decisive spot-kick from Adhami in a gripping finale and Kavian and its fans jumped for joy. Kavian's Line up included: Stephen Scott, Meysam Motezadi, Hamed Pasha, Mehdi Motezadi, Javad Pourvahidi, Farid Abasian, Ali Malekshahi, Behnam Abbassi, Farhad Sadough, Mehrdad Zafari, Vahid Nejad, Amir H Mohammadi.

Sahel down Kavian with 9 men

The game was anticipated to be one of the most entertaining matches of the league between the two old archrivals, but everything changed for the worse after a fight broke out amongst Sahel's own players in the middle of the first half. The game stopped for over 15 minutes and two Sahel players got red carded for display of un-sportsmanship acts.

The game never really picked up after the incident and became a pushing and shoving match on part of Sahel players who didn't do much except packing their 18 yards with 8 players and relying on counter attacks with one lone striker up front.

Even though Kavian controlled most of the game and had so many opportunities to score, but it was Sahel who scored two goals late in the second half to win the game what was filled with rough play and controversies.

"Today was a sad day for the league. Disgraceful acts on part of Sahel together with very poor referring just left a bad taste in everybody's mouth. The referee failed to use his authority to properly control the game. The game was stopped for over 15 minutes and not only it didn't get called off, but also the stoppage time was totally ignored. The violence and rough play was excessive and by letting it go, the referee just destroyed our team's spirit", said Farid Abasian, Kavian's League Team Manager.

Kavian's line up consisted of: Ali Behzadi, Ali Malekshahi, Behname Abbassi, Farhad Sadough, Hamed Pasha, Amir H Mohammadi, Ardeshir Samie, Azarakhsh Golshani, Nasser Behruz, Pirooz Rajabi, Siavash Mohajeri, Mehdi Hatami, Mehrdad Zafari, Mehdi Motazedi, and Meysam Motazedi.

Kavian Suffer Unlucky Loss to Tricel

G. Ross Lord Park – Kavian’s hope to move up to the top portion in the table of standing, suffered a big blow on Sunday as they suffered an unlucky 5-3 loss to Tricel in the T.J. Cup.

Kavian were seeking a lift after losing to NY Chrysler the week before but although they dominated play for most of the game, two goals in the second half; one by way of a controversial penalty was enough to condemn the league hopefuls to a second straight loss.

With the win, Tricel occupied the top spot in the T. J. Cup while Kavian sat on the bottom portion of the table and only one spot ahead of Window City, with 3 points from 3 games.

Making his return to Kavian after two weeks of absence, Vahid Nejad went close to opening the score for Kavian in the early minutes of first half, but was unlucky to put his name on the scoreboard. It was Tricel who opened the scoring with two goals, before Vahid Nejad finally converted a fine pass to Kavian’s first. Kavian failed to make the most of their chances and were punished with another goal, before the end of first half.

Kavian came out of their defensive tactics in the second half and moved Meysam Motezadi to a sweeper role. His great performance brought confidence in defense and helped the team to push forward for goals. The second half was dominated by Kavian; however it was Tricel again who was lucky enough to take advantage of their very few opportunities and increase the score. Kavian’s domination only partially paid off, as Shahriar Alipanah and Ali Behzadi converted their chances, but despite many other opportunities, Kavian were unable to salvage anything more as their goalscoring woes continued.

The result remained as 5-3. “The result is really unlucky. First of all, the quality of refereeing was below any acceptable standard and we were victimized by it. It cost us at minimum two goals, second it was just one of those days. We played against the best team in the league and controlled most of the game and did everything except put the ball in the net. This result is unlikely to help the morale in our camp, but we are a strong and mature side and know football is about winning and losing. We will forget about the defeat and focus on putting things right and getting back on track against the next opponent”, said, Farid Abasian, Kavian’s League Team Organizer.

Kavian’s line up consisted of; Steven Scott in goal, Shahriar Alipanah, Hamed Pasha, Farid Abasian, and Meysam Motazedi in defense, Ali Malekshahi, Ali Behzadi, Behnam Abbassi, Nasser Behruz, and Mohammad Dadgar in midfield, Amir H Mohammadi, Farhad Sadough, Mehdi Motazedi, and Azarakhsh Golshani in offense.

NY Chrysler Revive with a Crushing Win at Kavian

G. Ross Lord Park – After a dreadful loss against Sahel on the first day of the games, NY Chrysler found a turn of fortune with a six goal win over Kavian on Saturday to virtually position themselves as one of the hopefuls to win the T.J. Cup this year.

Kavian found itself in a defending mode from the early minutes of the game, when NY Chrysler started strong with an aggressive attacking style. However, Kavian held strong for a good portion of the first half, but a controversial penalty followed by a silly mix up between the goalkeeper and defense, handed the NY Chrysler a comfortable and moral boosting 2-0 lead.

Kavian never looked in good shape from this point on and lost its composure in almost all aspects. One more goal in the first half plus three in the second, was enough to send Kavian home with a bitter defeat. NY Chrysler enjoyed their first win with an outstanding result and at the same time they sent a warning note to all other teams.

“NY Chrysler was a strong and physical team, but we could have done much better. Our players looked tired and didn’t play to their full potentials. Kavian lacked organization and team work. This was a wake up call for us to be more prepared”, said Behnam Abbassi, Kavian’s League Team Coach.

Kavian’s line up consisted of; Hamed Pasha in goal, Farhoud Abbassian, Javad Pourvahidi, Pirooz Rajabi and Shahriar Alipanah in defense, Ali Malekshahi, Ali Behzadi, Behnam Abbassi, and Nasser Behruz in midfield, Mehrdad Zafari, Ardeshir Samie, and Hesam Dadgar in forward. Susbtitutions were Farid Abasian, Amir H Mohammadi, Reza Yarandi, Farhad Sadough and Azarakhsh Golshani.

Kavian Strong Performance Tainted

G. Ross Lord Park - A strong performance by Kavian was overshadowed and tainted by an incident on the field that led to two red cards for Kavian players.

Kavian started with a 4-4-2 formation that saw a lineup consisting of Behnam Abbassi in goal, Farhoud Abasian, Hamed Pasha, Shahriar Alipanah, and Javad Pourvahidi in defense, Meysam Motezadi, Ali Malekshahi (c), Ali Behzadi and Mohsen MohammadHassan in midfield, Amir Housian Mohammadi and Ardeshir Samie in offense.

Kavian started strong but conceded an early goal against the run of play in the early minutes of first half resulting from a defensive mistake. Ali Malekshahi, leveled the score 5 minutes later, injecting new spirit into the team. It was Shahin, however, that once again put its name on the scoreboard and made it 2-1. The goal came from a long ball that unluckily slipped through the hands of Kavian's goalkeeper.

Kavian started putting pressure on Shahin and got a goal by Amir Houssian Mohammadi, who scored from a close range in the minute 30. From this point on Kavian took control of the game and the pressure paid off when Ali Malekshahi scored from a penalty and gave Kavian a well-deserved lead in the dying minutes of first half.

Kavian increased its substitutions in the second half where Farid Abasian, Farhad Sadough, Azarakhsh Golshani, Reza Yarandi, Nasser Behruz, and Mehdi Motezadi saw action on the field.

Kavian showed a great performance in the first part of the second half, where Meysam Motezadi and Ali Malekshahi (hat trick) each scored to give Kavian a comfortable 5-2 lead.

And as it was going to look like a glorious victory for Kavian, an unfortunate incident turned things around and saw Kavian performance tainted with undesirable actions on the field.

A long ball was sent for Mehdi Motazedi, who in attempt to head the ball collided with Shahin's goalkeeper. In the pushing and shoving that followed after the incident, things got out of control and the referee in consultation with his assistance showed the Motazedi brothers red cards, reducing Kavian to 9 men on the field.

Shahin faced with an embarrassing defeat only a few minutes before the incident, found itself all motivated to make a come back. Despite a good wholehearted defense by Kavian, Shahin managed to reverse the score line to 6-5 to their advantage.

Kavian under pressure, fought back with 9 men and in the dying minutes of the game scored an equalizer through the skillful efforts of Ali Behzadi. At the whistle the score line remained 6-6.

After the game Kavian League Team Organizer, Farid Abasian placed an official complaint for Shahin's use of two illegal players. After deliberations by the officials, it was decided to hand Kavian a 1-0 win, for Shahin's infraction of the rules.

"This is certainly not the way we wanted to start the season and not the way we wanted to register a win. We showed that we could play well and score goals and want to continue building on that. Even though there is a lot to say about the quality of referee in today's game, but the incident is something to be regretful about. There will be penalties against our team and players involved. I am sure none of us wants to witness incidents like this again", said Farid Abasian, Kavian League Team Organizer.

Kavian Secures Sponsors for T.J. Cup 2005

Kavian Football Club today announced that it has secured number of financial sponsors to cover the cost of the NYCSL T.J. Cup participation.

Among our generous sponsors are club's own members, who pledged from personal funds, as well as the RAVENSHOE GROUP, a full-service marketing communications firm, based in Markham, Ontario (www.ravenshoegroup.com) that showed doing good business also includes putting some back into the community. Kavian's team uniform in the T.J. Cup will bear the name of RAVENSHOE GROUP on the front to promote the company and its services.

"Kavian F.C. would like to thank all sponsors for making team's participation in the T.J. Cup possible. Special thank goes to M.J. Pourvahidi for his endless efforts. We hope to continue our relationship with our sponsors in the future", said Farid Abasian, Kavian's League Team Organizer.

North York Community Soccer League is host to Kavian F.C. in 2005

Kavian Football Club today announced that it has accepted an invitation from North York Community Soccer League (NYCSL) to participate in its first edition of Division two games. The games will be held under Takhte Jamshid (T.J.) Cup and is set to start on May 28 and continue until end of September 2005. The League will also feature six other teams from across the city.

"Kavian's decision to participate in the League was an indicative of the senior members' recognition for the competitive nature of our growing number of young and talented players, who wanted to enjoy and experience the game at a different level. The decision is very much in the direction of our philosophy for promoting good clean sports among the youth and I want to thank our senior members for their full support.", said Farid Abasian, Kavian's League Team Organizer. "Over the next few weeks, our challenges would be to look for financial sponsors and sign up some additional players who can fit into our team's skill and culture." He further added.

T.J. Cup games will be played in a home and away format, followed by the playoffs to determine the League's champion. In addition to the T.J. Cup, teams from all divisions (premier, division 1 & 2) will also participate in the League Cup, which is played in an elimination format. Games in the League Cup will be determined by a draw.

"The 2005 season is expected to be full of intense competition", said Earle Wong, NYCSL director.
